Studying Life Science—What is Science???

Before we begin to study Life Science, several questions need to be answered. First of all, what does the word “science” mean? How do we learn to think scientifically? Can science answer every question, or does it have some limitations? Do a person’s beliefs—Christian or non-Christian—affect his or her use and understanding of scientific knowledge? If we can answer these questions, we can build a strong foundation that will benefit us as we study the details of Life Science.

Defining Science-

Science comes from the Latin word scientia, which means knowledge. Your textbook defines science as the knowledge gained from the careful, systematic investigation of the natural world. The goal of this type of investigation is to describe the relationship between events in nature so that we can make useful predictions. Life Science is the knowledge gained when scientific investigation is applied to living things in the natural world.

Life Science is the study of living things. It tries to answer the questions that come to mind of anyone who is fascinated by the living things that God has made. What does it mean for something to be alive? Where does life come from? How do living things survive? Why do living things die? How can we keep living things alive and in good health? If you enjoy learning about life, then you are going to LOVE LIFE SCIENCE!!!
